The Other TerroristAs the title suggests, this movie demonstrates the most recent crimes of "the other terrorist." This is a terrorist who is cheered by conventional media and unrestrained by any. Obviously, I'm talking about the US. The movie is narrated below, in case you don't understand what's going on (what, can't you tell what my oh so lifelike drawings are??) or if you just have no clue about what's happenning in Afghanistan (Afghanistan? Is that some kind of laundry detorgent?). Check Indifferent Genocide for more info. 1. The title scene. Hey, there might be some REALLY stupid people out there. 2. Images of the drought. Long before 9-11, Afghanistan was facing a crippling drought which withered crops and dried up streams. 3. Poverty of Afghanistan. Since the '80s, Afghanistan has been in near constant turmoil, with governments changing every few years. Thanks to the never ending civil wars, the country's economy and infrastructure have been devastated, leaving the common people with little or nothing. 4. The US begins bombing. The US's bombing campaign has so far claimed the lives of well over 3000 Afghans, many reports indicate hundreds more. 5. Afghan people flee cities (and bombs). Having lived in a region drenched in violence and war for years now, the Afghan people have a distinct knowledge on how to survive warfare: getting away from where bombs are exploding. Maybe not knowledge, perhaps something more like sanity. 6. Northern Alliance and Taliban fight. The battle between the US backed Northern Alliance and crumbling Northern Alliance has often taken place in urbun areas, where the Taliban's fortresses are located. As would be expected in urban warefare, civilians are quite often the victims. 7. Man walks and staves to death. The people who have fled the cities have walked either to refuge camps near the border of Afghanistan or have journey towards the interior of the country. Often, they starve on the way, or once they get there. 8. Child killed by landmine. The "humanitarian aid" tossed down by the US has cause more harm than help. More often than not, the food parcels land in the countryside, which is covered with land mines from Afghanistan's many wars. 9. Highway Robbery. Despite its horrifically repressive nature, the Taliban managed to keep Afghanistan in a fair semblance of order. With it gone, and nothing so far to take up its job, the roads have become infested with bands of gun toting bandits. These highwaymen have often prevented food shipments from the World Food Program and other aid organizations from reaching their destinations and the people who really need them. 10. Cold, slow death. Thanks to the lack of real humanitarian aid in Afghanistan, over 6 million people are at risk of starving or freezing to death this winter.
